US, NATO Collaborate on New Plan to Supply Weapons to Ukraine

Washington: The United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are developing a new mechanism to supply weapons to Ukraine, utilizing funds from NATO member states to cover the costs associated with purchasing or transporting the arms.

According to Qatar News Agency, Western sources have revealed that Washington, Kyiv, and NATO countries are working together to create an approach focused on supplying Ukraine with US-made weapons that align with Kyiv's top-priority military needs. The plan involves delivering weapons in batches valued at approximately USD 500 million each. Under the coordination of NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, member countries will decide which nations will donate or finance the weapons listed as priorities.

A European official in a related development mentioned that NATO member states aim to provide USD 10 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine through this new mechanism. However, the official did not provide a specific timeline for when this aid would be delivered.

"This is just the starting point. It is an ambitious goal we are working to achieve. We are currently on that path and fully support this ambition. We need this level of support," the official stated.

US President Donald Trump had initially adopted a conciliatory approach towards Russia to end the prolonged war in Ukraine, which has lasted over three years. However, he later threatened to impose tariffs on Moscow and take additional measures if the Kremlin did not make progress towards resolving the conflict by August 8. Trump subsequently announced that Washington would supply weapons to Kyiv, with the costs to be borne by European allies, though he did not clarify the implementation details.
