Ouagadougou: Dozens of soldiers and civilians were killed in two armed attacks in northeastern Burkina Faso.
According to Qatar News Agency, security sources reported today that gunmen attacked a military unit in the village of Dargou on Monday and clashed with soldiers, resulting in dozens of deaths on both sides.
They added that a supply convoy on the road linking the towns of Dori and Gorom-Gorom was ambushed on the same day, leading to the deaths of soldiers and civilians, particularly truck drivers carrying supplies. An estimated twenty were killed.
The attack on the military base was claimed by an armed group linked to Al-Qaeda, which is also active in Mali and Niger.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has witnessed attacks by armed groups and ISIS, which have killed hundreds of soldiers and civilians.
