London: The United Kingdom on Friday welcomed the ceasefire agreement in As-Suwayda, southern Syria, which was announced earlier in the day by the Syrian Presidency.
According to Qatar News Agency, the UK Special Envoy for Syria, Ann Snow, expressed her support for the agreement, stating, "It is good to see an agreement on a ceasefire in As-Suwayda, and I welcome all statements in support of it." She highlighted the importance of the Syrian Presidency's commitment to protecting all Syrians and ensuring accountability.
Ann Snow further emphasized the necessity for strict adherence to the ceasefire for the benefit of all Syrians. The importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region was underscored in her remarks.
Earlier today, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, in a speech following the ceasefire announcement in As-Suwayda Governorate, noted the recent clashes between armed groups had nearly spiraled out of control. He credited the intervention of the Syrian state for containing the escalation.
President Al-Sharaa reiterated the state's dedication to protecting all components of society and holding accountable those who violate the law. He called for justice to be upheld and for the authority of the state to be imposed across all Syrian territory.
