Trump Administration Announces Plan to Dissolve USAID

Washington: The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump officially announced on Friday its decision to dissolve the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This move is part of extensive cuts to U.S. foreign aid, which have faced criticism from numerous countries and humanitarian organizations.

According to Qatar News Agency, a statement from the U.S. Department of State indicated that both the Department of State and USAID have notified Congress of their intention to reorganize. This reorganization involves realigning certain USAID functions to the Department by July 1, 2025, and discontinuing the remaining functions that do not align with the administration's priorities.

The Trump administration also communicated to Congress that nearly all remaining USAID employees will be dismissed. Shortly after taking office, President Trump signed an executive order that suspended U.S. foreign aid for 90 days. This was followed by multiple cuts across USAID programs, although exceptions were made for essential humanitarian aid. The majority of the agency's staff were placed on administrative leave during this period.
