Doha: The Italian Football League (Serie A) announced Tuesday that the Italian Super Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia for the fourth time, next December, instead of January 2026, as previously scheduled.
According to Qatar News Agency, Serie A President Ezio Simonelli stated in press statements following the league's general assembly that the semi-final matches will be held on December 18 and 19, with the final on December 22. Simonelli indicated that the host city for the matches has not yet been determined, explaining that the final decision rests with the host country, Saudi Arabia.
The Italian Super Cup has been held since 2023 with the participation of four teams: the league champion and runner-up, in addition to the Coppa Italia champion and runner-up. The upcoming edition of the tournament includes Napoli (league champions), Inter Milan (runner-up), Bologna (Cup winners), and AC Milan (runner-up).
AC Milan won the last edition of the Super Cup, defeating their traditional rivals Inter Milan 3-2, achieving their first title since 2022.
In another context, the president of the Italian League revealed that an official request has been submitted to move the league match between Milan and Como, scheduled for next February, to Australia. He explained that the League has contacted the Italian Football Federation, the European Union (UEFA), and the International Federation (FIFA).
Simonelli explained that this step comes in light of the closure of the San Siro stadium during the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, scheduled for February 6-22. The stadium will be used for the opening ceremony, requiring the search for an alternative stadium.
He concluded his statement by emphasizing that the League seeks to turn this situation into an opportunity to strengthen the Italian League's international presence.
