Romuald Wadagni Wins Benin Presidential Election

Doha: Benin's Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni, a candidate of the ruling coalition, won the country's presidential elections held on Sunday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Head of Benin's Independent Electoral Commission Sacca Lafia announced that Wadagni received more than 94 percent of the vote after more than 90 percent of the votes had been counted. This significant victory reflects a strong endorsement from the electorate for Wadagni and the ruling coalition.

Lafia further highlighted that the participation rate in the elections reached 58.78 percent of registered voters. This turnout is indicative of a robust engagement from the populace in shaping the political landscape of Benin.

The presidential race was contested between Wadagni and Paul Hounkp¨, the latter being the sole opposition candidate. Hounkp¨ conceded defeat, acknowledging the decisive outcome of the election.
