Qatari Newspapers Highlight Local Industry Growth and Support for Yemen Prisoner Exchange

Doha: Qatari newspapers on Thursday addressed significant topics on both local and Arab fronts, with a primary focus on the State of Qatar's strides in localizing industry and increasing reliance on national products as a central economic driver. This momentum is attributed to the government's support system, which has placed local industries at the core of economic policies.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also highlighted efforts by the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to facilitate an agreement for the exchange of prisoners and detainees in Yemen. The State of Qatar welcomed the agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group, which will result in the release of 3,000 prisoners following intensive negotiations over two weeks.

Al-Raya newspaper emphasized Qatar's progress in establishing a national industrial base capable of supporting sustainable growth and enhancing its competitive position. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry's figures this year demonstrate the government's success in increasing industrial production's contribution to the GDP, which reached QR 27 billion, and attracting industrial investments exceeding QR 270 billion. Additionally, the number of locally manufactured products rose to 2,135 in the third quarter of 2025.

Al-Raya noted that Qatar's push towards industry localization is supported by the launch of the 'National Product' platform to foster fair competition and quality, alongside developing technical regulations for food safety and consumer confidence. Qatar aims to create a flexible and transparent business environment, empowering investors and building a solid national industrial base in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The editorial concluded by highlighting Qatar's efforts to deepen its partnership with the private sector through public-private partnerships and electronic platforms that showcase investment opportunities. These initiatives contributed to Qatar being ranked among the 10 most competitive countries globally and advancing in business efficiency.

Separately, Al-Sharq newspaper reported Qatar's support for the Yemeni people and the prisoner exchange agreement signed in Muscat, Oman. Qatar expressed appreciation for Oman's role in hosting and sponsoring the negotiations, as well as the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The agreement is seen as a step towards addressing humanitarian issues and strengthening security and stability efforts.

Al-Sharq emphasized Qatar's steadfast support for Yemen, aiming to achieve security, stability, and development for the Yemeni people.
