Palestinian Foreign Ministry Welcomes UN Resolution on Palestine’s Right to Self-Determination

Ramallah: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the adoption by the UN General Assembly Third Committee, which deals with human rights and humanitarian affairs, of its annual resolution reaffirming the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including their right to independence, return, and to live in their homeland free from Israeli occupation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry emphasized that this right is inalienable, not subject to any conditions, restrictions, or compromises, and is not negotiable under any circumstances.

It noted that this decision is fully consistent with the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice regarding the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the need to end it immediately and without any delay, as it constitutes the greatest obstacle to the Palestinian people's ability to exercise their right to self-determination and establish their independent state on their land.

The statement also noted that the importance of this decision is growing at this stage in light of the occupation's crimes of forced displacement, land annexation, settlement expansion, and deepening of its illegal control over the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem. This comes at a time when the besieged Gaza Strip is subjected to genocide and widespread destruction. This international vote constitutes a clear rejection of these policies and an affirmation of the need to adhere to international law and international justice without double standards or politicization.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry stressed the need to build on this momentum by continuing to work with member states to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the continued entry and effective distribution of humanitarian aid, and to proceed with reconstruction efforts and the restoration of normal life in accordance with international law.

It expressed deep appreciation to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, and called on them to translate this support into practical steps that would enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and end the Israeli occupation, in accordance with the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion, which affirmed the illegality of the occupation and the need to end it immediately and without delay, as it is the only way to achieve security, peace and stability in the Middle East.
