Doha: Italy's Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, has expressed strong views on the situation in Gaza, describing it as a denial of both law and the foundational values of civilization. Crosetto emphasized that the events unfolding in the region should not be considered mere military operations with incidental damage.
According to Qatar News Agency, Crosetto conveyed his concerns during an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa, pointing out that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be urged to reassess his current strategies and perspectives. Crosetto highlighted that certain remarks from Israeli officials are perceived as an intent to displace a population from their homeland.
Furthermore, Crosetto clarified Italy's stance on Palestinian statehood, stating that Italy will not recognize the State of Palestine, as it does not currently exist. He underscored the need for a viable approach to implement the historic United Nations resolution advocating for a two-state solution.
