1 Killed, 29 Injured in 6.1-Magnitude Earthquake in Northwestern Turkiye

Balikesir: One person was killed and 29 others were injured after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that jolted northwestern Turkiye's Balikesir province on Sunday, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. The quake was felt across several provinces, including the country's largest city, Istanbul.

According to Qatar News Agency, Yerlikaya mentioned that an 81-year-old person died after being rescued from rubble by emergency teams. He added that search and rescue operations had concluded, with no further reports of serious damage or casualties. Sixteen buildings collapsed as a result of the tremor.

Turkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that the quake struck at a depth of 11 km, and aftershocks ranging between magnitudes 3.4 and 4.6 were recorded in the area.
