Doha: The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind has held a legal awareness seminar in Doha to examine the country's newly issued disability law, which officials say marks a significant step forward in protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and strengthening their role in society.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event was organised by the center under the Ministry of Culture to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, focusing on Law No. 22 of 2025. The seminar highlighted its key reforms, mechanisms for implementation, and alignment with international conventions.
Speakers outlined four main areas of discussion, including an analytical reading of the law from the perspective of persons with disabilities and the role of the National Human Rights Committee in monitoring compliance. They also reviewed institutional responsibilities, particularly those of the Ministry of Social Development and Family in activating the law's provisions, and the wider role of community and cultural institutions in supporting its implementation.
The seminar showcased the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind as a practical example of community-based support, underscoring the importance of accessible cultural spaces and advocacy-led initiatives.
Participants said the new law represents a qualitative leap in advancing rights and ensuring protection, fairness, and full participation for persons with disabilities across Qatar. They underscored the need for coordinated efforts among government bodies, rights organisations, and civil society to guarantee that the legislation delivers meaningful change.
