Ministry of Labour and BWI Conclude Roundtable on Enhancing Construction Sector

Doha: The Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with the Building and Wood Workers' International (BWI), concluded a series of roundtable discussions held on December 1-2, 2025. The event witnessed participation from representatives of government entities, civil society organizations, employers, workers' representatives, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions were attended by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Migrant Labour Affairs Hamad Faraj Dalmouk, and several directors from the ministry. The initiative is part of Qatar's ongoing efforts to promote a safe working environment, ensuring job security and fair opportunities aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The roundtable focused on enhancing dialogue and sharing views on the construction sector's national laws, regulations, and international standards. The goal was to improve the working environment and strengthen workers' rights, focusing on occupational safety and health. It also aimed to develop a comprehensive vision and plan for the construction sector, ensuring alignment with global best practices.

HE Sheikha Najwa stressed Qatar's commitment to fostering dialogue on strategic partnerships and advancing labour policies in line with international standards. She highlighted the construction sector's pivotal role in the nation's development and its importance in achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.

She emphasized the significance of the gathering, which brought together senior officials, experts, and social partners alongside BWI, to exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions for key sector issues. These include labour legislation, safety standards, and promoting a sustainable working environment.

Participants expressed their commitment to ongoing discussions to propose practical solutions and initiatives for worker protection. In their final remarks, they underscored the importance of regular dialogue to implement outcomes, reinforcing Qatar's role as a global leader in safeguarding workers' rights.

The Ministry of Labour reiterated its dedication to constructive dialogue, strengthening partnerships, and implementing roundtable recommendations. These efforts aim to provide a safe working environment and support sustainable social and economic development in Qatar.
