Doha Photography Award Launched with Total Prizes Worth QR 2.3 Million.

Doha: The Ministry of Culture announced Tuesday the launch of the Doha Photography Award, which comes within the activities of the first edition of the Doha Photography Festival and aims to activate Qatar's role in various fields of arts, with a special focus on the art of photography. HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Culture Dr. Ghanem bin Mubarak Al Ali, several officials, and dignitaries attended the award launch ceremony. According to Qatar News Agency, Director of the Qatar Photography Center, Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, stated that the award aims to translate the vision of the Ministry of Culture by enhancing artistic and cultural momentum in society. It seeks to create strong interactions within the photography industry, supporting and encouraging photographers across age groups, refining young Qatari talents, and developing their aesthetic sense and photographic taste. The award also aims to contribute to the tourism movement in Qatar by highlighting the beauty of the country and its landmarks in an artistic and appealing manner. Al Buainain emphasized that the Qatar Photography Center is committed to increasing participation from various segments of society in this prestigious award. He encouraged photographers, including young talents, innovators, and professionals, to take part in the award categories to help promote art and culture in the country. In a statement to Qatar News Agency, Director of the Fire Station Artists' Residence Khalifa Al Obaidli highlighted the significance of the Doha Photography Festival as a platform that celebrates art and photography. He described the festival as an "encouraging station" for Qatari photographers, allowing them to showcase their works in an organized manner. The festival also featured lectures and workshops with international photographers, facilitating experience exchange and participation. The Doha Photography Award encompasses several categories, with prizes allo cated for different axes and age groups. The first category targets those under 18 years, with a general category for participants within Qatar, offering prizes for the top three winners. The second category is for adults over 18 years old and covers five axes, including Qatar, Story, Special, Video, and General, with substantial prizes for each axis. The Doha Photography Festival, continuing for its fifth day, has drawn significant interest from photography enthusiasts. It serves as a hub for learning about the latest photography equipment and devices, with international companies showcasing their products. The festival also featured lectures and workshops by renowned photographers, offering insights into various photography techniques. The festival, located opposite Darb Al Saai in the Umm Salal area, is set to conclude on Wednesday, underscoring the importance of photography as an expression and documentation tool and promoting photographic tourism in Qatar.
