Doha: Danish player Holger Rune, ranked fifth globally, advanced Tuesday to the third round of the Canadian Toronto Masters 1000 Tennis Championship, defeating France's Giovanni Pecci Perricard in straight sets in the second round of the tournament.
According to Qatar News Agency, Rune succeeded in overpowering his opponent in an hour and fifteen minutes with scores of 7-6 and 6-3, avenging his loss to Pecci Perricard in last year's semifinals of the Basel Swiss Championship.
In the third round, Rune will face another French player, Alexandre Mller, ranked 29th, who secured his spot by defeating Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic in a match that ended with two sets to one earlier today.
