YouTube Introduces Enhanced Controls for ‘Shorts’ to Protect Young Users

Doha: YouTube announced the launch of a new package of updates aimed at strengthening supervision and control tools for the use of short videos among children and adolescents. According to Qatar News Agency, the new updates allow parents to set a daily time limit for their children's viewing of short videos 'Shorts', or to block them entirely-either permanently or temporarily-along with new options such as 'bedtime' reminders and 'take a break' alerts. These features are designed to encourage users to stop watching after a certain period, thus promoting healthy and balanced use of the platform. The platform also revealed that it is currently working on improving navigation between parents' and children's accounts within the app, in order to prevent the recommendation algorithm from being affected by the mixing of viewing histories between the two accounts. This step comes as part of YouTube's broader policy to protect younger users, strengthen parental controls, and provide safer experiences for teenagers and children.
