WOAH Announces Bird Flu Outbreak Southern Bulgaria

Paris: The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) announced that Bulgaria has detected outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in three farms in the southern part of the country, at a time when Europe is facing a seasonal spread of the deadly disease.

According to Qatar News Agency, the organization, which is based in the French capital, Paris, stated that the H5N1 virus was found in three farms housing a total of about 28,000 birds in the town of Rakovski.

The spread of avian influenza has raised concerns among governments and poultry industry workers, as the disease has wiped out large numbers of poultry worldwide in recent years, leading to disrupted supply chains, higher food prices, and an increased risk of transmission to humans.
