US Urges Immediate Ceasefire in Thailand-Cambodia Border Conflict

Doha: The United States: on Friday called for an immediate halt to the ongoing clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border, expressing concern over the escalating tensions between the two countries.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US State Department issued a statement indicating that it is closely monitoring the developments at the border with concern. The statement highlighted the necessity of protecting civilians, resolving disputes through peaceful means, and urged an immediate ceasefire.

The urgency of the US call follows intensified clashes in Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey province, where local officials have reported one fatality and five injuries resulting from the ongoing fighting between the two nations.

The territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has long been a contentious issue, revolving around the demarcation of their 817-kilometer shared border. This region has frequently been the site of incidents due to the unresolved nature of the dispute.
