Doha: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's message confirming that France will officially recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in September. Palestinian President Abbas expressed his appreciation for this step, stating it will help establish peace based on the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy and law.
According to Qatar News Agency, President Abbas described the move as a victory for the Palestinian cause, reflecting France's commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their legitimate and inalienable rights to their land and homeland, and reinforcing adherence to international law.
Abbas emphasized that France's decision represents the position of states that believe in the two-state solution as the embodiment of international will and legitimacy, especially at a time when this solution is being systematically undermined by Israeli policies, including the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip.
He urged all countries, especially European nations that have yet to recognize the State of Palestine, to do so in alignment with the internationally recognized two-state solution and to support Palestine's bid for full membership in the United Nations.
