US, South Korea Set for Summit in Washington to Enhance Alliance and Industry Partnerships

Doha: South Korea's presidential office announced that President Lee Jae Myung and US President Donald Trump will convene for their first summit in Washington on August 25 to address security matters and bolster cooperation in advanced industries. Lee is scheduled to embark on a three-day visit to the United States starting August 24, marking his inaugural visit to the US since assuming office in early June.

According to Qatar News Agency, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung informed reporters that the discussions between the two leaders aim to transform the South Korea-US alliance into a future-oriented, comprehensive strategic partnership. This initiative is in response to the evolving international security and economic landscape.

The summit will also focus on strengthening industrial cooperation in sectors such as semiconductors, batteries, and shipbuilding. These discussions are set against the backdrop of a trade agreement the two nations concluded earlier this month, as highlighted by Kang.
