US President Appoints Tom Barrack as Special Presidential Envoy to Syria and Iraq

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the appointment of Tom Barrack as special presidential envoy to Syria and Iraq, in addition to his duties as the US ambassador to Turkiye.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a post on Truth Social, Trump said that Barrack would continue serving as ambassador to Turkiye while simultaneously assuming the role of special presidential envoy to Syria and Iraq. He added that Barrack would carry out his new responsibilities with the full support of the US State Department.

Trump stated that the United States would continue its efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation with both Syria and Iraq.

Barrack was appointed US ambassador to Turkiye in April 2025. In May 2025, he was also tasked with serving as the US special envoy to Syria.
