Gaza: Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini affirmed that hunger has become the latest killer in the Gaza Strip, calling for the safe and unhindered delivery of aid to the population.
According to Qatar News Agency, Lazzarini stated in a post on the platform X that after 5 months of continuous attempts to replace the coordinated UN response with four Israeli military distribution points, hunger has become the latest killer in Gaza.
He noted that community distribution centers, supported by partners, had been providing food and aid to nearly two million people before famine spread throughout the Strip. The UNRWA Commissioner stressed that it is time to deliver aid safely, unhindered, and with dignity, emphasizing the need to allow the United Nations and its partners to carry out their work.
Earlier Tuesday, the United Nations reported that despite the tactical pause in fighting recently announced by Israel to facilitate the passage of humanitarian convoys, the amount of aid entering Gaza remains insufficient to relieve the starving population, and trucks continue to face obstacles that hinder aid delivery.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has been committing acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.
