UN Warns of Deteriorating Conditions for Women in Palestinian Territories

Gaza: The Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Palestine, Nestor Owomuhangi, has raised concerns about the ongoing deterioration of conditions for women and girls in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He highlighted that the humanitarian crisis, coupled with movement restrictions, escalating violence, and funding shortages, is severely impacting the physical and mental health of women in these regions.

According to Qatar News Agency, Owomuhangi, in a press statement, emphasized that although there has been a slight improvement in Gaza compared to the most challenging periods during the war, the overall situation remains dire. In the West Bank, the accessibility to health services is increasingly hindered by checkpoints and rising settler violence.

Owomuhangi also pointed out that despite UNFPA's ongoing support for reproductive health services and protection programs for women, a significant funding shortfall poses a threat to the continuity of these essential services.
