Syria Affirms Lifting of Sanctions as a Step Toward Arab Cooperation

Baghdad: The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Asaad Al Shaibani, declared that the lifting of sanctions by US President Donald Trump marks a significant step forward in Syria's path toward national recovery. This decision, announced during the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, is seen as a result of sincere Arab diplomatic efforts that have led to meaningful outcomes.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Shaibani emphasized that the lifting of sanctions is not the conclusion but rather an opportunity for increased cooperation and integration among Arab nations to achieve development. The Syrian government and its people are committed to Arab unity, which Al Shaibani described as a strategic necessity rather than a political luxury.

Al Shaibani highlighted Syria's progress toward national recovery, emphasizing that Syria is inclusive of all its citizens without marginalization. He spoke about efforts to establish a national parliament representing the diverse Syrian populace and to develop a permanent constitution that upholds rights and sovereignty, ensuring governance by law rather than disorder.

He reiterated Syria's commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting any foreign interference in its internal affairs. Al Shaibani condemned any attempts to undermine or divide Syrian statehood, affirming Syria's refusal to be a battleground for external conflicts.

Al Shaibani also addressed ongoing Israeli threats in southern Syria, describing them as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. He stressed the importance of safeguarding Syria's security and territorial integrity, warning that continuous assaults could disrupt de-escalation efforts and increase chaos in the region.

He expressed hope for a united Arab response to support Syria's sovereignty and highlighted the shared plight of Gaza and Syria, calling for peace and dignity for the region's people.
