Doha: The Swedish government announced Thursday its decision to host a NATO logistics center in the city of Enkoping, located in the northwest of the country. The facility is intended to coordinate troop movements across Northern Europe.
According to Qatar News Agency, Swedish Minister of Defense Pal Jonson stated in an official release that NATO's presence in Sweden strengthens the security and deterrence capabilities. He explained that the logistics hub, expected to be operational by the end of 2027, will support the defense of NATO's northern flank. Its operations will include transporting various supplies such as fuel, ammunition, spare parts, and personnel across Swedish territory.
The base is projected to house around 70 personnel during peacetime, with the capacity to expand to 160 individuals in times of heightened alert or war.
Sweden ended its two-century-long military non-alignment policy and applied for NATO membership following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war. The country officially became NATO's 32nd member in March 2024.
