Mogadishu: The Somali military on Sunday successfully thwarted an attempted attack by armed elements on the Berta area, situated along the border between the Hiran and Galgaduud regions in central Somalia.
According to Qatar News Agency, the armed groups suffered significant losses in lives during the failed attack. The Somali military is currently engaged in pursuit operations to capture those who managed to flee the scene.
In a separate operation, the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) arrested two armed operatives in the town of Afgooye, located in the Lower Shabelle region. Among those arrested was a prominent commander of the Al-Shabaab group.
In recent months, Somali security forces have made significant progress in reclaiming several areas in central and southern Somalia from Al-Shabaab militants. These operations are part of an ongoing effort to counter the influence of militants who have been active in the region for years.
