Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung held discussions on Tuesday to advance bilateral cooperation and address regional and global issues. President Lee emphasized the importance of collaboration between South Korea and Japan in light of the complex international order, advocating for joint efforts towards a better future.
According to Qatar News Agency, President Lee highlighted the mutually beneficial relationship developed between South Korea and Japan over the past 60 years since the normalization of diplomatic ties. He expressed optimism about further enhancing these relations over the next 60 years. Prime Minister Takaichi pledged to work closely with President Lee to ensure regional stability and expressed her hope that his visit would contribute to strengthening Seoul-Tokyo ties.
President Lee is in Japan for a two-day visit as part of a reciprocal leader-level exchange known as "shuttle diplomacy," which aims to maintain recent positive momentum in bilateral relations. The leaders initially engaged in summit talks during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Gyeongju in late October and had a brief meeting during the Group of 20 leaders' gathering in South Africa in November.
