Moscow: Russia announced Monday that it would host urgent consultations on Tuesday regarding the Iranian nuclear program, with the participation of Iran and China. Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova stated that the consultations would be held at the expert level.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Russian Presidency affirmed that Russia is ready to do everything it can to help de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran. This development follows the United States' unilateral withdrawal in May 2018 from the 2015 agreement between Iran and six major powers, including the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The withdrawal led to the reimposition of economic sanctions on Iran. In response, Tehran abandoned some of the restrictions on its nuclear activities outlined in the agreement.
