Rubio Highlights Trump’s Direct Role in Sudan Peace Efforts

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that US President Donald Trump is personally following up on efforts to end the war in Sudan.

According to Qatar News Agency, Rubio spoke during a cabinet meeting at the White House, describing the current period as one of the most transformative years in US foreign policy since the end of World War II. He emphasized that President Trump has placed "America at the forefront of every decision" in Washington's relations with the world.

Rubio noted, "For the first time in probably four decades, American foreign policy is driven by what is good for America and Americans, and that kind of clarity is transformational."

President Trump has recently expressed his intention to engage directly in efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis and achieve peace. The conflict in Sudan began in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, leading to significant casualties and displacement.

The war has resulted in more than 20,000 deaths and the displacement of nearly 14 million people, according to local and international reports.
