QRCS Marks World Red Cross, Red Crescent Day 2026

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has celebrated the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, observed on May 8, under this year's theme "United in Humanity." In its statement on Saturday, QRCS called for putting humanity first, particularly by respecting the Red Crescent and Red Cross emblems worn by frontline aid workers - those who risk their lives and face immense challenges to save lives and alleviate people's suffering.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE QRCS Managing Director and Secretary-General Eng. Ebrahim bin Hashim Al Sada emphasized QRCS's dedication to showcasing Qatar's humanitarian image over its almost-half-a-century history. As an active member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, QRCS conducts large-scale relief and development operations across the globe, reaching affected and underserved populations worldwide.

Eng. Al Sada remarked that humanity has always been the driving force behind QRCS's efforts to serve humanity impartially. He highlighted the organization's use of humanitarian diplomacy to advocate for the vulnerable victims of disasters, conflicts, and poverty, drawing inspiration from noble religious teachings, Qatari traditions, and the Fundamental Principles of the Movement.

His Excellency further stressed the need for enforcing international laws and conventions to protect civilians and aid workers during armed conflicts. He noted the alarming increase in attacks on humanitarian workers, visibly wearing Red Crescent or Red Cross emblems, who were not involved in hostilities.

Eng. Al Sada shared the tragic loss of QRCS colleagues who were providing relief and medical services in conflict zones like Syria and Gaza. He condemned these actions as violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, as well as betrayals of humanity.

He concluded by acknowledging aid workers as human beings and volunteers from affected communities who deserve recognition and support, emphasizing that they should never be targeted.
