Doha: The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in collaboration with Ataa Humanitarian Relief Association, has successfully concluded a project designed to support orphans and their families in northern Syria. This initiative focused on enhancing the living and educational conditions for over 3,000 orphaned children from approximately 1,000 families, through a comprehensive set of interventions, which included food and educational support, as well as infrastructure rehabilitation of orphanages.
According to Qatar News Agency, the project aimed to alleviate the challenges faced by families with orphans in the region's challenging conditions. Five orphanages in Aleppo Governorate were rehabilitated, benefiting 400 orphans and their families. The rehabilitation efforts included upgrading infrastructure, such as the maintenance of walls, windows, bathrooms, and kitchens, as well as replacing electricity, water, and sewage systems. Additionally, basic equipment and supplies were provided to ensure a secure and healthy environment for the children.
To ensure the orphanages continued to function effectively, QRCS covered essential operational expenses, including electricity and water bills, heating, internet for educational purposes, and staff salaries. This financial support enabled the orphanages to continue serving the orphans without interruption.
Families of orphans received e-coupons to purchase essential food items like rice, legumes, dairy products, meat, vegetables, and canned goods. Seasonal clothing rations for orphans were also provided. Furthermore, the project included educational support by supplying stationery, textbooks, and transportation costs, fostering a stable learning environment that encourages continued education for the children.
The project concluded with a closing ceremony in Azaz City, where over 500 orphans and their families were honored. The event was attended by representatives from QRCS, local partners, and the children's families. Another ceremony took place in Al-Bab City to honor the remaining beneficiaries.
This initiative reflects QRCS's commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in crisis-affected areas and improving the quality of life for orphaned children and their families through sustainable development efforts.
