The State of Qatar has prioritized the development of mosques, ensuring they fulfill integrated roles that enhance their presence in the community's daily life.
According to Qatar News Agency, mosques in Qatar are now platforms for lectures, cultural seminars, and discussions on pressing social issues. They host activities for children and youth, thus contributing to the consolidation of Islamic values and strengthening social cohesion. A leading example is the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, a significant religious landmark inaugurated in December 2011, which combines traditional Qatari architecture with modern elements. It accommodates thousands of worshipers and hosts Quran memorization facilities, libraries, and major religious events.
Furthermore, the Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women represents a beacon for intellectual discourse and community dialogue, empowering women through research and educational initiatives. The Katara Mosque, with its unique architectural design, blends classical Islamic architecture with artistic embellishments, serving as both a religious and cultural hub. Opened in 2015, it is part of the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, embodying the mosque's historical role as a center of knowledge.
Mohammed bin Abdul Latif Al Mahmoud, Assistant Director of the Mosques Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, emphasized the mosque's role as an integrated institution for guidance and value-building. He highlighted initiatives to enhance the mosque's religious and educational functions, including organizing religious lessons and Quran memorization circles. The Ministry plans to further develop mosques by expanding digital platforms, training staff, and launching community partnerships.
Consultant Imam Dr. Mohammed bin Hassan Al Muraikhi noted the mosques' pivotal role in promoting religious and moral awareness, with activities like Quran memorization competitions and diverse lectures. He stressed the importance of Friday sermons in addressing contemporary issues and guiding the community according to Quranic teachings. Dr. Al Muraikhi praised the authorities' support, which has fostered a strong religious awareness in society, ensuring moderation and preventing sectarian intolerance.
