Qatar’s Dual Role in Gaza Mediation and Digital Commerce Growth

Doha: Under the headline "Ceasefire Key Amid Gaza Crisis," the English-language newspaper The Peninsula highlighted Qatar's significant role in mediating a potential ceasefire in Gaza. The paper noted a recent media briefing by Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who confirmed that Israeli and Hamas delegations are in Doha. Qatari and Egyptian mediators are conducting separate discussions with each side to address differences and develop a framework for future negotiations.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Ansari's statements underscore Qatar's commitment to using mediation as a pathway to peace and civilian protection, aligning with its broader stance that diplomacy should take precedence over violence. The Peninsula emphasized Qatar's continued advocacy for a political resolution to end violence amid the escalating crisis and humanitarian collapse in Gaza.

On the domestic scene, Al-Raya commended Qatar's strategic strides in establishing a leadership position in digital commerce. The paper noted that Qatar's progress is supported by a robust technological infrastructure, ambitious government strategies, and a strong focus on innovation and emerging technologies. The editorial, titled "Qatari Leadership in Digital Commerce," outlined the nation's remarkable growth in the digital commerce sector, driven by investments in infrastructure, a culture of innovation, and the embrace of modern technologies like artificial intelligence.

The newspaper also pointed out that the sector enhances Qatar's economic landscape by promoting innovative labor models, improving regulatory frameworks, encouraging startup growth, and supporting strategic sectors such as logistics and financial services. The editorial cited advancements in communication and information technologies and increased use of digital payment systems as contributors to economic productivity.

Al-Raya concluded by highlighting an announcement from the International Chamber of Commerce Qatar about the completion of the first draft of Qatar's version of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR). This achievement marks Qatar's advancement on the global MLETR adoption index, positioning it among the leading nations in digital commerce development.
