Qatari Newspapers Highlight Human Rights Day and Infrastructure Initiatives

Doha: Qatari newspapers on Wednesday focused on the celebration of Qatar Human Rights Day, observed annually on November 11, and the participation of HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim at the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Islamabad.

According to Qatar News Agency, the editorials also highlighted the efforts of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in implementing infrastructure projects.

Al-Arab newspaper emphasized the significance of Qatar Human Rights Day, which marks the anniversary of the National Human Rights Committee's establishment on November 11, 2002. It noted the Committee's extensive contributions to advancing human rights both within Qatar and internationally, inspired by the country's longstanding national principles. The editorial highlighted this year's celebration as particularly significant, honoring institutions and individuals who have positively influenced the Committee's progress. Over 23 years, the NHRC has become a model for adopting international initiatives and organizing events addressing global human rights challenges.

The Al-Arab editorial also mentioned the recent announcement of four new units within the NHRC focused on the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. These units are seen as an enhancement to the country's human rights efforts, aligning with national legislation and reinforcing the Committee's effectiveness.

Meanwhile, Al-Sharq newspaper remarked that Qatar Human Rights Day underscores the nation's commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and enhancing their role in social development. The establishment of the four new NHRC units was cited as evidence of this commitment, reflecting Qatar's dedication to social justice and human dignity for all residents. Al-Sharq also noted the NHRC's success in establishing partnerships and serving as a communication bridge among stakeholders to protect the rights of both citizens and residents.

The conclusion of Al-Sharq's editorial stressed the NHRC's role in setting standards for protecting vulnerable groups and raising awareness about their rights. The Committee's efforts to conduct visits to institutions and facilities aim to make human rights a tangible part of daily life in Qatar.
