Jeddah: The Qatari national basketball team will conclude on Tuesday their preparations for their match against Lebanon in the opening match of the 31st edition of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, which will be hosted by Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, with the participation of 16 teams.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari national team will begin their journey in the tournament by facing Lebanon on Wednesday, and will then play their second match against South Korea next Friday. The national team aims to achieve outstanding results and represent Qatari sports in this major sporting event, which includes the best teams on the continent. The team has strengthened its ranks with American player Brandon Goodwin, a playmaker coming from the NBA.
The 2025 FIBA Asia Cup draw placed the Qatari national team in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. Group B includes Guam, Japan, Syria, and Iran, Group C includes China, Jordan, India, and Saudi Arabia, while Group D includes Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Iraq, and the Philippines.
The FIBA Asia Cup, the most prominent continental tournament, is held every four years. Saudi Arabia is hosting it for the second time, having hosted the 1997 edition in Riyadh.
