Geneva: The State of Qatar has made a call to the international community to persist in mobilizing financial and technical resources to fully fund the Afghanistan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, aiming to secure a dignified life for the Afghan people. This plea was articulated by Juhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during her engagement in the interactive dialogue concerning the human rights situation in Afghanistan at the 59th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Suwaidi emphasized Qatar’s ongoing commitment as a proactive international partner. She underscored Qatar’s successful mediation efforts and its role in hosting Special Envoys on Afghanistan meetings under the UN’s guidance, which have enhanced international agreement on critical issues. Additionally, Qatar has been actively providing humanitarian and development assistance to alleviate the Afghan people’s suffering.

Al Suwaidi also stressed Qatar’s commitment to integrating human rights issues in its discussions with Afghan parties. This includes advocating for the participation of Afghan women in peacebuilding processes, ensuring their rights to education and equal employment opportunities, and protecting the rights of all Afghan society segments.

She noted the extensive challenges faced by the Afghan people, who have endured decades of conflict, natural disasters, and terrorism. Afghanistan is currently grappling with humanitarian, social, political, security, and economic challenges, impacting efforts to promote and protect human rights.

The Deputy Permanent Representative highlighted the need for intensified efforts to rebuild Afghan institutions. She called for sustained humanitarian and development aid for the Afghan people and urged continued dialogue with all Afghan parties to find solutions that promote stability and growth.
