Qatar U-16 Golf Team Dominates GCC Junior Championship in Muscat

Muscat: The Qatar National U-16 Golf Team clinched both the team and individual gold medals at the three-day GCC Junior Golf Championship hosted at Ghala Golf Club (GGC) in Muscat, Oman. The Qatari team delivered a commanding performance, topping the team standings with a total of +51 strokes over par, in what was regarded as one of the strongest editions of the championship across the junior categories. According to Qatar News Agency, the Bahrain team finished in second place after a fiercely contested tournament, recording +59 strokes over par, while the UAE claimed third place with +67 strokes over par. In the individual category, Daniel Sokolov of Qatar stole the spotlight, capturing the top position and the gold medal outright. He produced an exceptional performance throughout the tournament, posting -6 under par, with a substantial margin over his nearest competitor, underscoring his talent to compete on both the regional and continental stages. Khalid Sadiq of Bahrain finished second with +26 strokes over par, while Muhaib Al Kathiri of Oman secured third place with +31 strokes over par. This tournament remains a cornerstone in the agenda of golf federations across the GCC states, serving as a critical platform for exploring and refining budding talents and preparing a new generation of players capable of representing their national teams in the future. In essence, GGC is recognized as one of the outstanding courses in the region, with its intricate design demanding precision, which added grand technical value to the contests. President of the Qatar Golf Association (QGA) and head of the Qatari delegation, Hamad Abdullah Al Manaei, expressed his pride in the achievements of Qatar's players, applauding their performance and that of the Oman Golf Association (OGA) for its organization of a successful tournament. The Sultanate of Oman, represented by OGA and GGC, provided an ideal environment for the competitions, demonstrating the advanced level of sports organization in the country, Al Manaei underlined. He further affirmed that Qatar's performance in the championship reflects QGA's commitment to supporting youth categories and upgrading the player base, with a strategic vision aimed at building strong national teams capable of standing out and hoisting Qatar's name on Gulf, regional, and global stages.
