Taipei: The Qatari second basketball team is set to commence its journey in the 44th edition of the William Jones International Tournament against the UAE team tomorrow in Taipei, China. This participation is part of the team's preparations for upcoming events.
According to Qatar News Agency, the team is taking part in the tournament, which runs from July 12 to 20, following an official invitation from the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA). This invitation signifies the increasing regional and international presence of Qatari basketball.
The current tournament lineup includes teams from Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, as well as the Chinese Taipei teams (A and B), ensuring a highly competitive event.
The participation of the Qatari second team is a strategic move in their preparation for the Arab Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Nabeul, Tunisia, from July 23 to August 3.
The national team has a roster of 13 players: Abdullah Yassin, Owen Ekena Amah, Raslan Rashid Al Abdullah, Mubarak Rashid Jama, Mohammed Saeed Badri, Osama Abdel Nasser, Tamim Abu Issa, Azzam Mohammed, Mohammed Ahmed, Mahmoud Deeb, Issa Alert, Hamza Al Attar, and Dejan Janic.
The Qatari national team's campaign will start against the UAE on July 13, followed by matches against Japan on July 13, Australia on July 14, the Philippines on July 15, Chinese Taipei (B) on July 16, Bahrain on July 17, and Chinese Taipei (A) on July 19, before concluding their matches against Malaysia on July 20.
