Qatar Sends Identical Messages to UN and UNSC on Iranian Aggression

Doha: The State of Qatar has formally addressed identical messages to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN and President of the UN Security Council for March, Michael Waltz. These messages concern the recent Iranian aggression against Qatari territory, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatar's national sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security and stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, the message was conveyed by Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani. In this communication, Qatar strongly condemned the attack and asserted its right to respond appropriately under Article 51 of the UN Charter to protect its sovereignty and national interests.

Qatar emphasized that such targeting of its territory contradicts the principles of good neighborliness and is unacceptable under any circumstances. Despite Qatar's efforts to remain neutral in regional conflicts and its role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the international community, the attack undermines the foundation of bilateral relations between Qatar and Iran.

The State of Qatar also expressed solidarity with Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, condemning the Iranian aggression against these nations and supporting any measures they take to safeguard their sovereignty and security.

Qatar called for an immediate cessation of all escalatory actions and a return to negotiations, stressing the need to prioritize reason and wisdom to contain the crisis and protect regional security and interests.

The message detailed that on February 28, 2026, Qatar's Ministry of Defense successfully intercepted multiple missile and drone attacks from Iran. A total of 83 ballistic missiles and 12 drones were detected, with 81 missiles and 11 drones intercepted. However, two missiles and one drone reached their targets at Al Udeid Air Base and an early warning radar station, respectively, without causing casualties.

The attacks also resulted in missile debris falling on civilian areas, including West Bay and Barwa City, causing a fire in a food warehouse and injuring eight individuals, four of whom remain hospitalized. By March 1, additional injuries were reported, totaling 16 casualties. The Qatari authorities continue to monitor the situation as reports of further attacks and damage emerge.

The message requested that these developments be documented as an official Security Council document.
