Vienna: The State of Qatar emphasized that Iran's renewed targeting of its territory poses a threat to the principles of good neighborliness and the foundational understandings between the two nations. This act, Qatar asserts, violates the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter and international law.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar has expressed strong condemnation of this assault, which it views as a blatant violation of its sovereignty and a significant escalation threatening regional security and stability. The statement was delivered by HE Ambassador Jassim Yaqoub Al Hammadi during an extraordinary session of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors in Vienna, where the Iranian attacks on Qatar and other regional countries were discussed.
Qatar has consistently advocated for resolving disputes through peaceful means and has been a proponent of dialogue with Iran regarding its nuclear program. Ambassador Al Hammadi noted that Qatar has called for dialogue as the best way to ensure Iran's nuclear program remains peaceful. However, instead of appreciating Qatar's efforts to cease hostilities, Iran targeted Qatar's territory, escalating regional tensions.
The Ambassador highlighted that Iran's repeated attacks on Qatar's territory are unacceptable violations of Qatar's sovereignty. Qatar, which has always prioritized peace and dialogue, reserves the right to respond in self-defense, as per Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests.
Furthermore, Qatar reaffirms its solidarity with other Arab nations and supports any measures they undertake to protect their sovereignty, security, and stability.
