New york: The State of Qatar reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in their pursuit of legitimate rights, including self-determination, the cessation of occupation, and the establishment of an independent state. This declaration aligns with the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital.
According to Qatar News Agency, this commitment was articulated by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during a plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly on the Palestinian cause. She highlighted the recent UN High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, which led to the adoption of the New York Declaration reaffirming the two-state solution.
In her address, Her Excellency underscored Qatar's mediation efforts in reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. She mentioned participation in a meeting convened by then US President Donald Trump during a high-level week at the UN, where Qatar supported a plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza and facilitating humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
Her Excellency announced that, due to Qatar's collaborative efforts with the US, Egypt, and Turkiye, a ceasefire agreement was reached and approved at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. She emphasized the importance of UNSC Resolution 2803, which supports a comprehensive ceasefire and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
Expressing concern over recent developments, Sheikha Alya condemned Israeli attacks in Gaza, labeling them as threats to the ceasefire. She also criticized an Israeli incursion in Damascus and a raid on a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, calling for adherence to international laws.
Her Excellency urged the UNGA to address the crisis facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees and reiterated Qatar's support for international efforts to reconstruct the Gaza Strip, highlighting an upcoming conference hosted by Egypt.
