Hainan: The 57th Executive Board meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) began in China's Hainan Province, marking a significant gathering of news agency leaders from the region. The State of Qatar was represented by a delegation led by HE Director-General of Qatar News Agency (QNA), Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi.
According to Qatar News Agency, Xinhua News Agency President Fu Hua opened the session by highlighting the critical themes under discussion. He focused on the shifts in media content due to rapid technological progress and the increasing role of artificial intelligence. Fu Hua emphasized the necessity for news agencies to adapt to these changes, which are impacting various professional sectors, and to enhance their services amid the rapid development of AI and social media. He also announced that the Qatar News Agency will host the Board's next meeting in June 2026, followed by the Vietnam News Agency for the subsequent session.
HE Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi expressed appreciation to OANA for entrusting Qatar with the hosting duties for the Executive Board's 58th meeting. He assured that Qatar is prepared to welcome delegations from across Asia and the Pacific, aiming to deliver a session that meets the expectations of member agencies. His Excellency reiterated Qatar's readiness to foster dialogue and expertise exchange, ensuring an environment conducive to significant achievements.
The meeting also included a review of a report on the memorandum of understanding between OANA and the Boao Forum for Entrepreneurs, intended to enhance communication and cooperation. Participants approved the previous meeting's minutes and discussed the organization's financial status and future initiatives. Additionally, a proposal was considered to admit Mongolia's Montsame National News Agency as OANA's 13th member, filling a vacant seat.
