Seoul: The State of Qatar participated in the high-level opening session of Global Green Growth Week 2025, organized by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Seoul, South Korea. The session saw wide participation from government leaders, international organizations, and representatives of the private sector.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was headed by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud. In his address, His Excellency affirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting international efforts to address climate challenges. He emphasized the importance of strengthening international partnerships in knowledge exchange and technology transfer, which contributes to enhancing the effectiveness of climate policies and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
His Excellency highlighted the strategic cooperation between the State of Qatar and several international organizations, including the Global Green Growth Institute, noting that this cooperation has contributed to strengthening national institutional capacities in the areas of climate planning and the development and implementation of environmental policies. He also noted that the bilateral agreements concluded by the State of Qatar with a number of private entities and institutions have contributed to accessing the latest technologies in the fields of environment, sustainability, and the circular economy.
HE Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud also participated in a ministerial session entitled "Water and Renewable Energy for Climate Change Adaptation." During his intervention, he reviewed Qatar's integrated approach, which links water security and energy efficiency, within the framework of the country's vision to expand the scope of renewable energy and achieve environmental sustainability.
His Excellency also held a series of bilateral meetings, including a meeting with HE Chairman of the GGGI Board of Directors, Ban Ki-moon and Director-General of the Institute, Dr. Sang-Hyup Kim where they discussed mechanisms for implementing the National Adaptation Plan and reviewed opportunities for future cooperation. The Institute's officials expressed their appreciation for the support provided by the State of Qatar to the Institute's programs and initiatives.
His Excellency also met with President of the Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI), Takashi Morisaki where they discussed the existing cooperation between the two sides and the prospects for future joint work in the fields of environmental innovation and clean technology.
