Qatar Enhances Support for Syrian Electricity Sector with New Phase of Subsidies

Doha: Todays editorials in Qatari newspapers underscored the State of Qatars unwavering stance and continued commitment to supporting the brotherly Syrian people in facing the challenges they endure, as well as its steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, chief among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers noted that, in implementation of the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and as part of Qatars sustained efforts to assist the Syrian people in the electricity sector, the State has announced the commencement of the second phase of electricity subsidies in Syria.

Under the headline Qatars Ongoing Support for the Syrian People, Al-Sharq stressed that Qatar continues to spare no effort in supporting initiatives aimed at aiding the Syrian people during this critical phase of the countrys transition toward stability, development, and prosperity. The editorial noted that Qatar has consistently stood at the forefront of nations backing the aspirations of the Syrian people, politically, developmentally, and through humanitarian support.

It highlighted the Qatar Fund for Developments announcement of the launch of the second phase of electricity support, which will provide 800 megawatts of power, in line with the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The paper added that this new phase brings the total contribution of the Qatar Fund for Development to the Syrian electricity sector to over $760 million, reaffirming Qatars unwavering commitment to supporting the Syrian people across all sectors.

Likewise, under the headline Qatars Steadfast Commitment to Syria, Al-Raya affirmed that Qatars position in support of Syrias unity, sovereignty, and independence, and its commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people for a dignified life and a state built on institutions and the rule of law, remains unchanged. The editorial emphasized Qatars continued solidarity with the Syrian people through this sensitive period, expressing confidence that their resilience will lead to a brighter future and the establishment of a progressive state where all citizens enjoy their full rights and human dignity.

It added that among the many challenges Syria faces, the energy crisis remains one of the most pressing. In response, Qatar has acted promptly. The second phase of support, scheduled to begin Saturday, builds on a previous phase already implemented, bringing Qatars total contributions to more than $760 million. The newspaper concluded by highlighting that these sustained efforts reflect the State of Qatars deep commitment to strengthening vital infrastructure and securing a dignified and stable life for the Syrian people.
