Qatar Engages Actively in Francophonie Ministerial Conference in Kigali

Kigali: The State of Qatar took part in the 46th session of the Ministerial Conference of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, which was convened on November 19 and 20, 2025, in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. The event underscored the importance of women in development and promoted gender equality within the Francophone community.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani, who serves as the Ambassador of Qatar to the French Republic and the nation's representative to the International Organisation of La Francophonie. The conference emphasized multilateral cooperation and addressed organizational administrative and financial matters.

HE Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo, highlighted efforts to bolster political, diplomatic, and economic actions within the Francophone domain. She acknowledged Qatar's substantial role in mediating the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as its pivotal contribution to the Doha Framework Agreement for Peace signed on November 15, 2025. This agreement, involving the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the March 23 Movement, was facilitated under the supervision of Qatar, alongside the United States and the African Union, aiming for enduring peace and stability.

Delegations from various Francophone countries commended Qatar's mediation efforts. The head of Qatar's delegation reaffirmed the country's commitment to mediation and peaceful conflict resolution on the global stage. He emphasized Qatar's adherence to the values of La Francophonie and its commitment to collaborating with partners to enhance the role of Francophone women in development and peace initiatives.
