Berlin: The Arab Cultural House "Al Diwan", affiliated with the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Germany, recently hosted a panel discussion in Berlin to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day. The event brought together specialists in psychiatry and professionals focused on training and rehabilitating individuals with autism, aiming to facilitate their professional and social integration.

According to Qatar News Agency, the panel included German political figures engaged in social and integration issues. Among them was Wilfried Oellers, a member of the Bundestag's Social Affairs Committee, who stressed the importance of harnessing the abilities of individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Lawrence Al Hanawi, director of Al Diwan, highlighted the State of Qatar's commitment to empowering people with autism and promoting inclusive dialogue. He emphasized that autism is often linked with creative skills and abilities, and awareness campaigns should focus on directing individuals with autism to capitalize on their talents.

Writer and parliamentarian Melanie Matzies observed that while societies have made strides in understanding and accepting the inclusion of individuals with autism, the journey is not yet complete. She noted the challenges many face in distinguishing between approaches to autism and other neuropsychological disorders. Researcher Stefanie Fuhrmann offered an alternative view, suggesting that autism should be regarded not as a neuropsychological disorder but as a distinct pattern of human behavior.
