Qatar Affirms Commitment to Mediation and Innovation at UN and Through Domestic Initiatives

Doha: In its editorial, "Qatar Committed to Mediation and Peace," Al-Sharq highlighted that the UN General Assembly provided Qatar with yet another platform to reaffirm its dedication to mediation and de-escalation, a strategy it has embraced since the mid-1990s. Qatar has extended its influence beyond its borders to foster stability in nations such as Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Afghanistan, and Iran.

According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial emphasized that Qatar views mediation as a vision based on the principles of justice and peace, with a firm belief that diplomacy can triumph over conflict when there is a genuine willingness to cooperate. Al-Sharq concluded that Qatar has demonstrated its role as a responsible international actor, consistently promoting dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. The country's message at the UN was not only a defense of its mediation achievements but also an appeal to the international community to renew its trust in diplomacy as an effective tool for resolving crises.

On the domestic front, Al-Arab, in its editorial "Doha University and Immersive Learning," discussed the evolving role of higher education in supporting a knowledge-based economy and fostering innovation in Qatar. The paper highlighted a cooperation agreement between Doha University of Science and Technology and three leading British firms specializing in immersive education technologies. The editorial noted that this agreement marks a significant advancement, incorporating virtual, augmented, and mixed reality into higher education and providing students with interactive learning experiences that prepare them to engage with future technologies.

The editorial added that such initiatives strengthen the relationship between academia and industry through joint projects, workshops, and conferences, contributing directly to human capital development, a cornerstone of the Qatar National Vision 2030. Al-Arab concluded that this reflects Qatar's determination to not only stay abreast of global technological advancements but also to actively participate in shaping them, with Doha University setting a new direction for higher education that goes beyond traditional classrooms.

Meanwhile, The Peninsula, in its editorial "Waste Segregation Initiative," commended the significant progress in the waste segregation at source initiative, with Doha achieving segregation rates exceeding 85%. The paper noted that the initiative aims to enhance Qatar's circular economy. The waste segregation at source program has reduced waste management costs and encouraged industries to utilize recycled resources.

The paper highlighted that the Domestic Solid Waste Management Center in Mesaieed transformed waste into approximately 277,000 megawatt-hours of electricity last year, contributing to both its operations and the national grid. Additionally, Qatar produced over 40,000 tonnes of fertilizer in 2024 from green waste, farm waste, and wood. The program, launched as a pilot project in 2019 and gaining momentum during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, has become one of the Ministry of Municipality's flagship achievements, rolled out nationwide from October 2023.

Concluding, The Peninsula affirmed that Qatar has made significant strides in advancing its circular economy and recycling initiatives, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The waste segregation at source program contributes not only to environmental preservation but also to the broader national strategy for sustainable development and economic diversification.
