Qatar Achieves Milestone with Healthy City Designations and Advances in Healthcare System

Doha: In a remarkable development for Qatar's healthcare landscape, Al-Watan newspaper reported that the nation has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first country where all municipalities have been recognized as Healthy Cities by the World Health Organization. This achievement is part of the State of Qatar's broader efforts to build a world-class public healthcare system under the guidance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.

According to Qatar News Agency, this recognition is complemented by the titles of Healthy Education City awarded to Education City at Qatar Foundation and Healthy University to Qatar University. Al-Watan highlighted the launch of the Qatar Patient Safety Classification by the Ministry of Public Health as a key initiative to bolster patient safety and enhance healthcare service quality across the nation. This classification serves as a comprehensive framework for analyzing patient safety information and promoting excellence in clinical practice within Qatar's healthcare facilities.

The editorial in Al-Watan underscored Qatar's distinguished and globally competitive healthcare system. Similarly, Al-Arab newspaper lauded the Qatari Patient Safety Classification as a crucial step in the evolution of the country's healthcare framework. The newspaper elaborated that the classification establishes a unified national approach to understanding, analyzing, and evaluating patient safety incidents, thereby fostering a culture of safety and excellence.

The classification encompasses over 25 main categories of patient safety incidents, including medication errors and surgical incidents, and integrates digital transformation to build a smart national patient safety database. This strategic move is viewed as an investment in the future of Qatar's healthcare system.

The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, also noted Qatar's progress in another arena, the 21st Asian Games Doha 2030. The newspaper reported on the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Organizing Committee, chaired by HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani. This meeting marked the transition from planning to organized implementation for the tournament, with Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain appointed as CEO of the Organizing Committee, strengthening the executive structure for the event.

Qatar's confidence in hosting the Asian Games is rooted in its experience from the successful 2006 edition, which established the country as a prominent global sports host. The Peninsula concluded that the initial Board meeting for the 2030 Games, while procedural, represents a foundational step reflecting Qatar's clarity, confidence, and legacy in hosting major sporting events.
