New york: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani addressed an emergency session of the UN Security Council convened to discuss the Israeli attack on Qatar. The session was initiated by Algeria, Somalia, Pakistan, France, and the United Kingdom in response to the incident.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Council members for their prompt response to Qatar's request for an emergency meeting. He specifically thanked Algeria, Somalia, Pakistan, France, and the United Kingdom for formally submitting the request on Qatar's behalf. His Excellency appreciated the Council's press statement condemning the Israeli strike on Doha on September 9 and reaffirming support for Qatar's sovereignty, in line with the UN Charter.
HE the Prime Minister described the attack as a significant escalation threatening regional peace and security. He detailed that an Israeli airstrike targeted a residential complex known for housing negotiating delegations at 3:46 pm on September 9. This attack resulted in multiple casualties, including the death of Qatari national Lance Corporal Badr Saad Mohammed Al Humaidi Al Dosari. Several civilians and Qatari Internal Security Force members were injured, with investigations and efforts to identify the missing ongoing.
His Excellency emphasized the attack's impact on civilians, including children, in a neighborhood with schools and diplomatic missions. The Prime Minister accused Israel's leadership of violating international law and diplomatic norms, warning that such actions place the international system at risk.
HE the Prime Minister questioned Israel's motives, citing the attack as an attempt to derail peace efforts and prolong the suffering of the Palestinian people. He stressed Qatar's commitment to mediation and peaceful conflict resolution, highlighting successful mediation efforts in partnership with Egypt and the United States.
His Excellency called on the UN Security Council to act against such violations, warning that inaction undermines international order and peace processes. He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to peace under HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's leadership while reserving the right to respond to threats to its sovereignty.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging the international community to continue striving for a lasting peace based on a two-state solution, emphasizing the importance of negotiations, ceasefire, and humanitarian aid to Gaza.
