Poland’s Swiatek Advances to French Open Semifinals

Paris: Poland’s Iga Swiatek (ranked world No. 5) advanced to the semifinals of the French Open (Roland Garros), the second Grand Slam tournament of the season, after defeating Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina (ranked No. 13) on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

According to Qatar News Agency, Swiatek claimed victory in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, marking her fourth win in this year’s tournament. She will face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the next round, after Sabalenka overcame China’s Zheng Qinwen.

The 23-year-old Polish player now extended her winning streak at Roland Garros to 26 matches and is one step closer to capturing her fifth title on the Paris clay.
