Ramallah: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Hungarian Ambassador to the State of Palestine, Gabor Decacci, to protest Hungary's reception of the Israeli Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people.
According to Qatar News Agency, Director of the European Affairs Department, Ambassador Adel Attia, expressed the State of Palestine's protest and strong condemnation to the Hungarian Ambassador. He stated that Hungary's decision to receive the Israeli Prime Minister, despite the ICC's arrest warrant, signifies dangerous complicity with the occupation. This action, Ambassador Attia argued, encourages ongoing crimes of genocide and displacement against the Palestinian people.
Ambassador Attia further emphasized that Hungary's withdrawal from the ICC does not absolve it of its obligations under international law and the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the court. He highlighted the grave and ongoing violations committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian civilians, implying that international accountability remains crucial.
